Good for: Reducing swelling in soft tissue
Cost: 60 minute session: £50
Simple Lymphatic Drainage (SLD) is a soft and gentle treatment that stimulates the lymphatic system of the body, clearing the lymph channels to allow excess fluid to drain. This can help reduce swelling, tightness and the associated discomfort within soft tissues. This type of massage is done without any oils or creams, and uses different techniques to therapeutic or aromatherapy massage (which often increase blood supply, in turn causing more lymph to be produced).
Simple Lymphatic Drainage is sometimes used to support on-going MLD* treatments. It is typically used in combination with deep breathing exercises both before and after the massage to help encourage the drainage further. SLD can also be used simply as a stand-alone treatment for helping to ease away excess fluid and pressure in soft tissue. Treatment with SLD may be particularly helpful if you have swelling of your face, neck, upper arm, thigh, breast or trunk.
The benefits of Simple Lymphatic Drainage include:
- Promotes natural balance and health
- Improves circulation
- Reduces swelling, easing associated discomfort and pain
- Can be taught to clients for self-care at home
- Supports other, wider medical treatments
I can show you how to perform some Simple Lymphatic Drainage for yourself each day, to support yourself and your on-going treatments with me. It takes about 20 minutes to do. People often find it both convenient and relaxing to perform this massage at bedtime, but anytime will do. The important thing is that it should be performed at the same time each day so that the lymphatic system is stimulated regularly.
*Simple Lymphatic Drainage (SLD) is a simplified version of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), a clinical intervention which is normally part of a wider medical treatment. An MLD specialist may suggest Simple Lymphatic Drainage (SLD) as part of a patient's on-going lymphoedema treatment. I do not offer MLD sessions.
